Project Tapestry

It was a very sad day when he who shall not be named pulled the rug out of the Twitter third party client community. One causality of this douchebaggery that hit the hardest to me personally was the loss of Iconfactory’s long running client Twitteriffic. Whilst Ged Maheux, Sean Heber, and the other lovely folks of Iconfactory still have other, really fantastic, apps available still, it looks like they’re not done quite yet in the social space. This time, however, it sounds like they’re cooking up more than just a social feed, as they’ve launched a Kickstarter for their app / service, named Tapestry.

Tapestry’s ambition is to create a kind of unified inbox for all of your RSS, social media, and more, into a single feed of content you can digest in one place, rather than jumping between multiple apps and services throughout the day. In their own words, the app will aim to:

[Weave] your favorite blogs, social media, and more into a unified and chronological timeline.

I, obviously, know nothing about what Tapestry is, or will be, but I was an avid Twitteriffic fan from the early days so I was already 100% behind supporting this great team. When I learnt a little more about their ambitions, however, I was all in. The team posted to their blog to explain what they're looking to achieve with Tapestry:

Our goal is to use public Internet standards to gather the information you care about, and present it to you in one place, without a middleman and on your own device. This means that not only can the app collect posts from social networks with open APIs such as Mastodon or Bluesky, it could also include webcomics, posts from blogs, the latest photos from NASA, headline news, or anything else with an accessible feed.

The Iconfactory team has shown they are both a skilled, and dedicated team, with their other great apps such as Linea Sketch, Tot, and many others so if anyone can succeed with this ambitious project, its them. If you want to support Tapestry, head over to their Kickstarter and dive on in. I'll certainly be keeping an eye on this as we learn more.
