iMessage and outrage theatre
… anyone who is shocked by these “revelations” is either not paying attention or is pretending to be shocked.
I agree with every word in Matt’s post here and, of the above statement,
I’d definitely say it’s the latter option. There’s a strange
aura around Apple and it’s fandom where people faint like a
Victorian in too tight a bodice when they read a statement that reminds
them that Apple are a business. Not just any business, but the biggest
in the world (or at least one of them). You don’t grow to a 2.23 T
market cap by being either a charity to your customers or by giving away
some of your key technologies or infrastructure to your closest
completion.
As Matt explains, DHH’s tiresome tirade against Apple has been going on
for a while. I’ve asked
before how he can reconcile this feeling against Hey’s own business
model, but I didn’t get a reply. I’m assuming the fact I’m a paying Hey
customer is the only reason I didn’t get blocked for asking it to be
honest.
Apple are a business. Their job is to make money, not only for themselves, but for their shareholders. As is any other business. Why the faux shock about this?
