A fun iPad accessory
Federico Viticci is known for his love of the iPad, and he’s been
exploring some fun
accessories recently Of the three accessories he posted about in
this recent article, the Edge Pro
MagSafe holder really caught my eye. I’ve long been a sucker for
iPad accessories, so couldn’t resist checking this one out.
If you’ve not read Federico’s article as yet, the Edge Pro MagSafe
holder is a simple magnetic plate designed to attach to a laptop, which
lets you stick your iPhone to the side of your device. It turns
out, however, that it also works very well with an iPad Pro (12.9” in my
case). That’s … pretty random I know, but has actually been quite handy
a few times.
Here’s what it looks like when I was having a
bit of a play with it earlier:
Whilst there aren’t that many use cases for a thing like this I
have found a few over the last few days I’ve been using it, such as
keeping my music, podcast or audiobooks onscreen whilst keeping my
activities on the main screen front and centre. It’s kind of like having
a multi-device Stage Manager.
The hardware itself isn’t
that cheap, considering how basic it is, but it does feel relatively
well made and sturdy. The adhesive it comes with has, so far, stuck fast
onto my iPads Magic Keyboard case, though I can’t vouch for the state it
will leave your iPad in if you take it off. If I remove it, or it falls
off, I’ll update this post with more details.
There are a
couple of details I quite like with this products design as well.
Firstly, when it’s closed / not in use it can be folded back on itself
and it magnetically locks shut, so it’s not flapping about all over the
place. Lastly the part that sticks onto your device is a separate part
to the iPhone holder, so you can remove the heavier metal part, and
leave just the sticky backed metal plate on your iPad or laptop should
you want to reduce the weight a little. When it comes to an iPad Pro
12.9” plus a Magic Keyboard, however, the weight difference really is
negligible.
All in all, this is a fun little addition to my
growing collection of iPad accessories and, whilst its use cases are
fairly niche, I think I’ll be able to get quite a lot of use out of it.
